I wouldn’t consider myself a coffee snob, per se, but I have been known to opine over the flavor profile of particular coffee brands from time to time. And yes, I have a few favorites—Uncharted Coffee Supply, BLK & Bold Specialty Beverages, Rev Coffee Roasters (IYKYK).

Beyond specialty coffee brands and small-batch roasters, though, a good cup of joe doesn’t require much more than a little love and care to extract the most flavor out of whatever brand of coffee you have on hand. The answer is simply a little love. It’s the secret ingredient you can’t ever put your finger on, but you know it when you taste it. It’s what sets an okay cup of coffee apart from a spectacular one, and with just a bit of effort, you can make a really great cup of coffee from the comfort of your own home—no special equipment needed.

After you’ve selected your preferred coffee and preparation method (I love a good French press), the most important component to consider is the vessel with which to sip your perfectly prepared cuppa out. And there’s major bonus points if it spreads a little love on its own.
